Louis Daguerre announced his early photographic process, the daguerreotype, at a meeting of the French Academy of Sciences on 9 January 9 1839. ABC journalist, Lisa Pellegrino looked back on the early years of photography with Dr Elisa deCourcy, an art historian specialising in the nineteenth-century history of photography and ARC Fellow in the Centre for Art History and Art Theory at ANU.
